Liopep
Liopep is a startup specializing in exergames, serious games, and gamification for health and physical activity promotion. The company's core product, the Liopep platform, is available on smartphones, tablets, and desktops, offering exergames and gamified interactive workouts for use at home, in clinical settings, or in the workplace.
Liopep was founded by Senior Associate Professor Aseel Berglund and Senior Associate Professor Erik Berglund from the Department of Computer and Information Science at Linköping University, Sweden, and grew out of their research into how games and gamification can drive lasting increases in physical activity across diverse populations, including children, adults, and elderly individuals living with chronic conditions.
Prof. Aseel Berglund
Founder and CEO
Senior Associate Professor Aseel Berglund is a recognized expert in gamification and user experience, with a strong academic foundation in computer science and extensive experience spanning digitalization, product development, and project management. Her research focuses on how gamification can drive meaningful behavioral change, particularly in health and physical activity. This work has directly informed real-world innovation: Aseel is the founder and CEO of Liopep, a start-up that has developed a digital exercise platform designed to make physical activity more engaging and accessible. Combining deep research expertise with hands-on industry experience, she excels at translating science into practical, user-centered solutions that make a real difference.
Prof. Erik Berglund
Founder and CTO
Senior Associate Professor Erik Berglund brings a movement-first approach to the intersection of technology and physical activity. With expertise in exergames and body interaction design, his work spans AI, mobile development, and game design — always with the human body at the center. His research investigates how physical movement can become a core design element in digital experiences. As founder and CTO of Liopep, he has turned that vision into reality — engineering the technical backbone of a platform that transforms how people move and stay active. Where others build technology for the body, Erik builds technology with the body in mind. Erik serves as the technical lead for all exergame development in the project, overseeing the architecture and implementation from concept to deployment.
