Idryma Technologias Kai Erevnas

The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) was founded in 1983. It is the largest research center in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research institution worldwide. FORTH reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Development. FORTH conducts specialized scientific research in strategic high-added value sectors, focusing on interdisciplinary research and development (R&D) activities in areas of major scientific, societal and economic interest, such as: Lasers and Photonics, Microelectronics, Advanced Materials / Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Robotics, Telecommunications, Chemical Engineering Sciences, Energy, Environment, Social Sciences & Humanities, Astrophysics and Astronomy. Its Unit of Medical Technology Intelligent Information Systems (MedLab) is a highly innovative and self-contained research unit strongly activated in the fields of Biomedical Engineering.

Prof. Dimitris I. Fotiadis

Professor and Affiliated Researcher

Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece, Director of the Unit of Medical Technology and Intelligent Information Systems, and an Affiliated Member of FORTH, BRI. He has coordinated and participated in more than 250 R&D funded projects, being the coordinator and technical coordinator. His work has received more than 32,800 citations (h-index=82). He is IEEE EMBS Fellow, EAMBES Fellow, Fellow of IAMBE, Fellow of AIAA, member of the IEEE TC of BHI, Editor in Chief of IEEE JBHI, Member of the Editorial Board in IEEE RBME, Associate Editor for IEEE OJEMB and member of the EASA and member of the NAAI. He is the recipient of many scientific awards including the one by the Academy of Athens. He is the co-founder of PD Neurotechnology Ltd, UK and Intelligence4Rehab.

Mr Vasileios Loukas

Associate Research Engineer

Vasileios Loukas received his Engineering Diploma from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Thessaly and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Uppsala University, Sweden, with a focus on high-performance computing and computational systems security. His work involves computational disease modeling (cardiovascular disease and dementia), organ modeling (arteries, aortas, and biomechanical vessels), and performance modeling of medical devices (coronary and peripheral stents and balloons). He specializes in designing high-performance systems to support Digital Clinical Trials and in developing AI-based methods for predictive risk modeling.

Prof. Manolis Tsiknakis

Professor

Prof Manolis Tsiknakis (h-index: 48), is a Professor of Biomedical Informatics and eHealth at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hellenic Mediterranean University and an affiliated researcher at the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). He has been the scientific coordinator or the technical leader of several large, EU funded, collaborative projects. He has coordinated the ProCAncer-I project an ambitious effort focused on developing an AI Platform integrating imaging data and models, supporting precision care through prostate cancer’s continuum. He has regularly acted as an evaluator of research proposals for the EU, and other European funding agencies as well as for the Russian Science Foundation and the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation, Greece. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and an Editorial Board member of the European Biomedical Informatics Journal. He is the author of over 300 publications. His main areas of expertise include biomedical informatics and engineering, approaches for semantic health data integration and interoperability of health information systems; affective computing and behavioural modelling; and pervasive eHealth and mHealth services.

Prof. Kostas Marias

Dr. Kostas Marias, PhD, (h- index: 42) is a Professor in Medical Image Processing at the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University in Greece and the head and founder of the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory at FORTH-ICS. Ηe served as Principal Researcher at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS-FORTH) since 2006. During 2000-2002, he worked as a Researcher at the University of Oxford and from 2003-2006 as Associated Researcher at FORTH-ICS. He received his PhD in Medical Image Analysis and Medical Physics from UCL Royal Free & University College Medical School working jointly with the University of Oxford, UK. He has coordinated two EC projects on cancer modelling (ContraCancrum and TUMOR projects), and has actively participated in several other EC funded projects developing ICT technology. He is co-author of more than 200 papers in international journals, books and conference proceedings focusing on medical image processing and analysis, biomedical informatics, image-based modelling and radiomics/deep learning medical imaging applications.
