The European Commission has launched a Call for Evidence, inviting individuals, healthcare professionals, patient organizations, and groups across Europe to offer their insights on enhancing the early detection and screening of cardiovascular diseases.
This initiative is a crucial part of the Safe Hearts Plan, aimed at strengthening prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of heart-related conditions. Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death and disability in the European Union, representing a major public health challenge. The Commission is working to address the gaps in current healthcare systems and to expand health checks and screening programs across the EU. At present, fewer than half of the EU Member States have implemented dedicated cardiovascular screening initiatives, which highlights the urgent need for more coordinated and widespread efforts in this area.
The Call for Evidence seeks feedback on current challenges, potential actions, and the expected outcomes of proposed measures. Contributions are encouraged from individuals, patient groups, NGOs, healthcare professionals, researchers, academic institutions, and any other interested parties wishing to share their views.
The consultation will remain open for feedback until 19 May 2026, and all interested parties are encouraged to take part of this initiative.
